Statue of Chas wearing a yellow safety vest and a white hard hatWe’ve got a lot happening on campus and some things have already gone…differently…than planned. While the fence that was put up around the library main entrance right after graduation was disruptive (people joked we were trapped in the library and would starve), things have gone as well as can be expected when trying to work in or near a construction area.
Those who work in the library or want to use the library have had to deal with several inconveniences since construction and demolition has begun. This has been stressful for several people, because change and disruptions are stressful.
Several years ago, I read the book Who moved my cheese? which discusses how to deal with change by using a story about the inhabitants of a maze. It’s a fun little read which might be beneficial to those dealing with change right now. It’s the story of two mice and two tiny people who get cheese fed to them in the same location in the maze every day. One day, the cheese isn’t where it’s expected, so the inhabitants must deal with the change…

The story goes over several different ways of dealing with change and can be very helpful. Of course, it’s a physical book in the library’s collection, so you’ll have to request it by clicking the big red “Request Item” button near the top of the page…
