The CC English Department presents the MacLean Symposium on Writing as Craft and Career: In Honor of Ruth Barton

 

Panel 1: Thursday, April 5, at 7:00 PM in the Cornerstone Screening Room
 “CC Alumni Writers Discuss Writing at CC: Remembering Ruth Barton”
All are welcome to join six acclaimed authors who studied under Ruth Barton at CC: Michael Nava, novelist; David Owen, journalist; Russell Martin, novelist and nonfiction writer, Jeannette Barnes, poet and editor; Alan Prendergast, journalist, and David Mason poet, writer and CC professor. They discuss what they have done as writers, their experiences as student writers and mentees of Ruth Barton, how her mentorship and Colorado College helped shape their development as writers, and the general importance of mentors to aspiring writers. Those students in any majors who aspire to be writers in any genre or endeavor are especially welcome.

Michael Nava, novelist; David Owen, journalist; Russell Martin, novelist and nonfiction writer, Jeannette Barnes, poet and editor; Alan Prendergast, journalist, and David Mason poet, writer and CC professor, as they discuss how to envision a career as a writer. Whether you are thinking of poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, or journalism, these very successful writers want to share their stories, advice, and hear your questions.

Reading: Friday, April 6, at 7:00 pm in Gates Common Room
A reading by seven acclaimed CC alumni authors: Michael Nava, novelist; David Owen, journalist; Russell Martin, novelist and nonfiction writer; Jeannette Barnes, poet and editor; Alan Prendergast, journalist, Rosemerry Wahtola, poet; and David Mason poet, writer and CC professor. They will each read short excerpts from their work.
