Students Volunteer in India over Winter Break

Six Colorado College students and two staff members spent their winter break on a service trip in rural India. The group worked with Maitri, a non-government organization based in India to pilot a residential school program called the 100-Day School. While there, the CC students worked with 43 children, teaching classes ranging from water erosion to history to Irish dancing. The 100-Day School is in Melghat, a region in the centrally located state of Maharashtra, which has a high rate of illness and child mortality. Colorado College first partnered with Maitri in 2007, and since then has assisted with solar lighting, water and sanitation, agricultural, and educational projects.  Members of…

From the President

Dear Alumni, Parents, and Friends of Colorado College, Now I really know what the Block Plan is all about. For three and a half weeks in January and February, my husband and fellow economist, Kevin Rask, and I taught a class about the economics of higher education. Before the class I understood the concept of the block system, but I wanted to have a deeper sense of what our faculty and students experience during the semester. Frankly, I also wanted to spend more time getting to know our students. Although we frequently meet during office hours and special events, teaching students in a class introduces them intellectually, which gives one…

CC Gets Top Grade from Charity Navigator

Colorado College received a four-star rating, the highest rating available, from Charity Navigator, a national organization that helps people make informed decisions about charitable giving. Nonprofit organizations are rated on their financial health as measured by program and administrative costs, fundraising expenses and efficiency, revenue, and similar indicators. Charity Navigator recently added a nonprofit’s accountability and transparency practices to the assessment. “This is an important and timely endorsement by Charity Navigator,” said Steve Elder, vice president for advancement. “A recent CC alumni survey indicates that the three most important reasons our alumni support non-profits are ‘the organization’s effective use of donations, its impact on society, and its overall reputation.’ This report…
