From Ice to Art: Honnen Ice Arena Undergoes Transformation

The Honnen Ice Arena, named for Edward Honnen, a Class of 1921 alumnus, is undergoing a transformation. The ice was melted and removed in mid-June, and plans call for using the building as the primary new home for 3D arts classes until a permanent home can be developed. Additional campus spaces for 3D arts classes also have been identified, including a studio in the new Ed Robson Arena. Honnen received an honorary B.S. degree from CC in 1960 and an honorary D.S. degree from the college in 1983. Class of 2021 video: Behind the Scenes 

The video was created as a way to honor the Class of 2021 and acknowledge their unique senior year. It also serves as a documentary on what life was life for students during the COVID-19 pandemic. Bergen Hoff  ’22 had started as a Communications Office video intern during the Spring 2021 Semester. “He loved the idea when I pitched it to him and took it on as his main project,” says CC videographer Rachel San Luis ’10. “We were intentional on trying to get a variety of perspectives for the student interviews.” Hoff interviewed each student outside their residence, the only way the video could be shot at the time without masks.…

Professor Natalie Gosnell ’08 Receives Cottrell Scholar Award

Assistant Professor of Physics Natalie Gosnell ’08 has been awarded the highly competitive Cottrell Scholar Award, which supports both original scientific research and new educational initiatives. The Cottrell Scholar program is highly competitive and open only to faculty members completing their third year in their first tenure-track appointment. The $100,000 award from the private Research Corporation for Science Advancement (RCSA) foundation supports the physical sciences.
