New publication on the effects & organization of avalanche-derived large wood!

Alum Nathaniel Cutler ’25 published his thesis work in the journal Earth Surface Processes and Landforms, with co-authors Sarah Schanz (CC) and John Kemper (Utah State University). In this work, Nathaniel used field work and drone photogrammetry to characterize large wood jams delivered by snow avalanches in the Sawatch and San Juan mountains. He came up with a novel jam classification and showed how the style of large wood jams (and associated geomorphic impacts) is related to the avalanche regime.
