Welcome to our Spotlight on Half Block series! Each week leading up to Dynamic Half Block in January, we’re featuring one of 2018’s non-credit offerings here on our blog. Registration for all non-credit offerings is now open on Summit.
Spotlight on The Vocab: Critical approaches to spoken word writing and performing
What’s this class about?
Ideal for vets and beginners alike, this course invites you to create original spoken word performance pieces drawn from the cracks and corners of your life. From rhyme to rage, we will identify critical techniques utilized by key artists from the genre’s rich history. A series of creative and collaborative exercises, enhanced by group critiques, lead to one-two culminating public performances. This year’s Vocab will be guest taught by former Albuquerque Poet Laureate and Slam Champion Jessica Helen Lopez.
What are the times and dates?
All of Half Block: January 8-18, with class from 1pm-3pm.
What kinds of skills will I learn?
You’ll learn skills that our coaches say are invaluable in any job-seeking setting: clear communication, confidence, self-expression, and comfort in front of audiences.
