Lunch Lady and the League of Librarians
Book 2 in Jarrett J. Krosoczka’s Lunch Lady series. The librarians are the villains — they want to stop kids from playing video games. During a battle with the lunch ladies, the librarians release beasts from library books (a lion from The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe; three little pigs from The Three Little Pigs, and so on.) The lunch ladies use their hairnet nets to capture the librarians. After they triumph, the lunch ladies set up a Read-a-thon where students read books while waiting for their turn on the new X-Station 5000. Find this book in a library near you using Open Worldcat.
Mule library!
In Venezuela in 2007, mules carry a lending-library of books to people in remote areas. Not really a shenanigan, more of a wonderful idea, but still, mules carrying books! That’s cool. More here. (Thanks, BoingBoing!)
Hobbit house for a private library
Architect Peter Archer designed a hobbit house to hold a private library. Reported in 2007, location unclear but probably Chester County, Pennsylvania. More here. (Thanks, BoingBoing!)
More fun with encyclopedias
Someone — no one knows who — (well, I have my suspicions) rearranged the World Book encyclopedias in Tutt Library at Colorado College this week. (Thanks, Steve Lawson!)
Fun with encyclopedias
Here we see “Leather to Macho” on the spine of the Dictionary of Art and “Menage Ottawa” on the Encyclopedia Brittanica (if that doesn’t seem funny, say it out loud). http://friendfeed.com/stevelawson/d2f92e81/ (Thanks, Steve Lawson!)
Here’s another one — Suzie DeGrasse sends us a photo entitled “Popular Science channels Santa.”
Unwanted books made into art
A yeti in the library!
Tutt Library, Colorado College, January 2010. This patron told library staff “Sometimes it’s hard, being a yeti, in a library. ” She used her CC ID to check out a book about yetis. (Thanks, Marianne Aldrich!)
ADDENDUM APRIL 2015: The yeti has returned! If anyone got a photo, please send (jrandall@coloradocollege.edu)! This time he or she tried to check out Where the Wild Things Are and a picture book about monsters, but was unwilling to provide a gold card.
