People who play Magic: The Gathering will know that one of these cards comes from a “silly” card set rather than a regular one. People who don’t play Magic: The Gathering will probably consider all the cards equally silly.
Thanks, Steve Lawson!
Forbes Library staff shenanigans
The staff of the Forbes Library in Northampton, Massachusetts have put together some shenaniganny videos:
Thanks, Jonathan Caws-Elwitt!
shenanigans shenanigan
Not library related. Thanks, Steve Lawson, for calling the whole purpose of this blog into question.
check-out card socks
A must-have for all library-lovers! Thanks, Jennifer Resnick (who first sent me the link) and Steve Lawson (who reminded me about it).
snogging dogs sculpture
Janine Ashbless has kindly provided a photograph of this sculpture of “snoggin dogs” at the Leeds Central Library in England. Thanks, Jonathan Caws-Elwitt!
fun with encyclopedias, part 3
Some clever high school student has discovered that the spines of the World Book encyclopedia can be rearranged to spell out “Boob Dick.” (As you may recall, “Dork Bowl” is also a possibility.) Thanks, Steve Lawson!
the yeti returns!
A yeti was spotted in Tutt Library twice in the spring of 2015, but we have no photo documentation of the events. (The photo at left is from a previous sighting.) On at least one of these occasions, the yeti wore a pink felt heart on his or her chest stating “YETI [heart] LIBRARY” and tried to check out Where the Wild Things Are and a picture book about monsters, but was unwilling to provide a gold card.
The zine for the 2015 Tutt Library Annual Haiku contest, available in the Colorado College Zine Collection, contains two yeti-related haiku/senryu/non-haiku. The first, by yours truly, reads: a yeti visits / its heart says it loves this place / yeti, we do too. The second, attributed to the yeti, reads:
YETI LORVE LIBRARYRE
YETI LORVE BOOKS AND POMES
YETI NOT COUNT SILLBULLS
WHAT SILBBULL ANYWAY
building a feminist collection

As you may recall, we recently acquired an early edition of Mary Wollstonecraft’s Vindication of the Rights of Woman. We had such an outpouring of interest in the book that we decided we should reach out to the Feminist and Gender Studies program at CC and ask for suggestions for other acquisitions. A lively discussion ensued about the books that had brought us to feminism, and Special Collections ended up purchasing several first and/or interesting editions of:
Doris Lessing, The Golden Notebook
Toni Morrison, The Bluest Eye
Sylvia Plath, Ariel
John Berger, Ways of Seeing
Louisa May Alcott, Her Life, Letters, and Journals
Carol Gilligan, In a Different Voice (Robert Bly’s copy with his annotations)
Simone de Beauvoir, The Second Sex
Margaret Atwood, The Handmaid’s Tale
We’re always happy to talk with faculty about acquiring books they’ll use with their classes. I’m looking forward to incorporating these new acquisitions into instruction sessions in FGS classes and others.
The easter bunny’s WHAT?!
The easter bunny’s WHAT?! Library barcode placement fails. (The answer in the case of the easter bunny is “assistant,” and it’s a skunk.) Here’s another fail. Thanks, Jonathan Caws-Elwitt!
